Egr valve problems
Disabling EGR Valve? I live in southern New Mexico where summers are hot, winters are mild and there is no state vehicle inspection of any kind. The EGR valve on my stock ‘88 Samurai has apparently given up the ghost. Jun 11, 2009 · I've replaced the EGR valve, the EGR sensor module and checked all of the EGR lines for cracks and lose connections. I still get the infamouns P0401 code. The way my 98 Ranger is running at low speed (hesitation and surging) I believe it may be the MAF but I am going to take it into a mechanic for formal diagnosis before I replace anything else.
The egr valve costs $143 and they charged me $450 dollars in labor at a $100/hour rate. I really felt really taken today and never have had that feeling before (from any dealership). The other noted work was a updated PCM, I just don't think that was worth 4.5 hours of labor. Page 1 of 6: How to Test the Ford EGR Valve EGR Vacuum Solenoid, DPFE Sensor. Common Symptoms of a BAD EGR Valve. Testing the Ford EGR Valve, EGR Valve Vacuum Solenoid and DPFE Sensor on Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda. Jan 13, 2020 · The EGR valve recirculates a small amount of exhaust into the combustion cycle. The warmth of the exhaust lets the combustion chambers warm up quickly, while the spent, inert gases keep the chambers from getting too hot when the engine fully warms up. Whether mechanical or electronic, EGR valves open and close to control the gas flow. .
I had replaced the EGR Valve and the PCV Valve. And the problem persisted. Until today, I solved it by watching a few YouTube videos about cleaning out the throttle body and EGR port, right inside the intake. The bad EGR Valve may not have been bad, but the carbon build up inside the the intake, behind the throttle body was my issue.
The exhaust gas recirculation valve—EGR valve for short—in your vehicle is a critical part of the emission reduction system. Most commonly located on the intake manifold, the EGR valve uses a signal from the vehicle’s computer or vacuum from the induction system to open a passage and allow the engine’s exhaust gasses to be reintroduced ... EGR valves are designed to allow a small amount of exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber, this in theory increases efficiency and reduces pollution. Blocked and sticky EGR valves in diesels can cause all sorts of running problems which will vary depending on if your valve is sticky, stuck closed or even stuck open. Because EGR valve problems have a number of causes, the best way to diagnose the issue is to use a scanning tool that displays trouble codes. Vehicle service manuals list the proper repair protocol depending on the trouble codes. One of these components commonly found on many EGR systems is the EGR pressure feedback sensor. The EGR pressure feedback sensor, also known as the delta pressure feedback sensor, is a sensor that detects the pressure changes in the EGR system. It works together with the EGR valve to regulate the pressure of the EGR system. When the EGR ...
(07-31-2013, 07:02 AM) bigdogeatsfirst Wrote: I have a 2011 mbe4000 engine in a freightliner chassis it has had 4 egr valves installed since 7/2 and keeps coding for egr valve position incorrect. We have tested wiring and visually inspected harness end for end with no issues found.
Egr valve problems About 2-3 months ago I replace my egr valve and the check engine light went off just today it came back on with the p0406 code which is egr circuit high. Is my egr valve really shot after just 2 months??? EGR should damage the DPF. A faulty EGR will put the engine into 'safe mode' limiting the power output Unless it is properly calibrated and reset when replaced, the issue will persist. the best is to remove the whole thing cos that simple blanking method without using a straight through pipe is good only for the Eu2 EGR version but if i understood well it's the Eu3 type in which case simply blanking the EGR inlet is not enough cos the system is working on the ILT valve too which will restrict the clean air flow on management request as the two valves are working together ...
Oct 20, 2009 · This type of EGR valve has made the auto repair industry and GM a ton of money over the years, since it's prone to carbon blockage. Well the good news is that this is an EGR valve and EGR valve system that is very easy to test and diagnose and this article will walk you thru' the entire diagnostic/troubleshooting process.
May 24, 2018 · The EGR valve is one of the most vital components in your Audi. It works to reduce the amount of pollutants like nitrogen oxide gases coming out of your car. Thus, knowledge about its repair & replacement is a must. Here are the details about the EGR valve in your Audi. May 15, 2009 · Firstly, EGR valves were a problem and were on back order for ages. They did eventually let us strip them and clean them but it wasn't always successsful. Always better to get the new part.... Feb 14, 2019 · They ran diagnostics which showed EGR valve not closing. Light re-set. Ran it for 500 miles when light reappeared but no symptoms and no determination in performance. Garage suggested valve really needed to be changed so out with my £670 and hey presto new valve, 2 weeks later warning light back on. These deposits eventually develop into a black layer of soot, which can lead to various engine problems and even engine failure. The short-term benefits of the EGR valve lead to a faster saturation rate inside the engine. Soot forms where the exhaust passes into the intake, and even within the valve itself, causing various problems.
If it is, remove the EGR valve and using a hand vacuum pump, apply vacuum to the nipple on the EGR valve and see that the pintle moves. If it doesn't then you need a new EGR. If the pintle moves, then with the EGR still remove, put the palm of your hand over the opening (green) on the intake and then have someone start the engine and see that ...
Long story short: The problem tuned out to be a clogged EGR tube between the back side of the engine and the EGR valve. The tube was so clogged with old exhaust particulate that he couldn’t get a pipe cleaner through it, so he ordered a replacement tube from our local Subaru dealer. Note that EGR is delivered to the intake port at a point close to the intake valve and that one EGR valve per cylinder would be required. The EGR valve is also located very close to the intake port, thus reducing the volume of exhaust an engine has to consume, especially during acceleration. Sep 22, 2010 · to find the EGR valve, follow the tube that spurs off of the passenger side exhaust manifold, the tube runs to the intake manifold on the passenger side behind the throttle body where the EGR is located. The Fuel Pressure Reg. is on the fuel rail, center on the driver side. As others have posted above, often EGR problems are being solved by performing "Surgery" on the motor and getting rid of or capping off EGR components. A better option is to simply use the programming in the ECM to close the EGR valve itself, and then delete programming or make adjustments inside the ECM. Evidentially, the EGR Valve on my 3.0l is nicely snuggled up on the back of the engine along the firewall. 7+ hrs of labor to remove. Now to the problem, I will occasionally get the glow plug indicator when accelerating at highway speeds. 40+mph on on-ramps, passing on the highway, towing a trailer, etc..
Wynn's Diesel EGR Valve Cleaner 150ml Wynn's Diesel EGR Valve Cleaner is designed to help clean out your EGR valve. This cleaner will help remove carbon and tar-like deposits that restrict air flow and cause the EGR valve to stick. The EGR valve is located in the image above, directly in front of your throttle body. Disconnect the EGR plug and undo the two nuts that secure the EGR valve to the intake manifold. Slide the EGR valve off cleanly and carefully, chances are your EGR valve gasket is completely wasted, so don’t bother trying to save it. The specific purpose of the EGR valve determines if, when, and how much exhaust gases are recirculated. As carbon deposits build up in and around the valve it prevents the opening and closing of the valve operation, and worst case the valve can become stuck losing all functionality.
My check engine code is #51 which is an EGR problem on my 1994 1.6 sidekick with 112.000 miles on it. I put on a new EGR valve, disconnected the battery for a spell, which turned the light off for about 30 miles. When it came on again I read the article in Auto Zone on how to check it. Valve is normally closed stopping exhaust gas entering the inlet, when ECU demands egr valve opens and lets in exhaust gasses to be re burnt. When you blank off you basically blank the port on the exhaust manifold so gasses cannot enter the valve. The only logged fault was the egr valve. When tou reset it you can start the engine and a few seconds after running it goes into limp again and shows the same egr valve fault code. But will keep the pressure sensor in mind thanks.

No problems since - except one time I took off the upper intake manifold, and the EGR, EGR tube and all the electrical connectors. Well, I was getting a P1401 (I think this is the code) for high voltage on the EGR valve sensor - this code does not mean the sensor is failing, per say. Wynn's Diesel EGR Valve Cleaner 150ml Wynn's Diesel EGR Valve Cleaner is designed to help clean out your EGR valve. This cleaner will help remove carbon and tar-like deposits that restrict air flow and cause the EGR valve to stick.
If the EGR pressure sensor has any issues which affect the functionality of the EGR system it can cause the vehicle to fail an emissions test. EGR valves have been causing problems for years, the VW defeat software was designed to put a Car in a different mode for test conditions to cheat the U.S. testers. The biggest cause of EGR/DPF problems is using diesels for short runs or stop/start driving. Driving style, (driving hard off the mark etc) Poor quality fuel, Poor servicing etc. The blanking plate just blanks off the outlet from the EGR valve by fitting a thin shim/plate inline. The full blanking kit provides thicker plates to seal and blank off the EGR valve output and also the other end of the tube which goes into the throttle body. It is also recommended to remove the butterfly valve.

there is no point in "plugging" an egr valve. What we mean by "plugged" egr is from all the carbon crap that clogs the egr pipe, thus hindering its job,and in some instances like mine, not allowing me to pass smog. sc00tert00ter EGR valves are designed to allow a small amount of exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber, this in theory increases efficiency and reduces pollution. Blocked and sticky EGR valves in diesels can cause all sorts of running problems which will vary depending on if your valve is sticky, stuck closed or even stuck open.

The most often found problem with the EGR system is carbon buildup restricting the EGR flow. Usually, if a carbon buildup is found in one part of the EGR system, the other ports and passages could be clogged too, so the entire EGR system needs to be checked for restrictions and cleaned if needed to fix the problem. I've heard that on some Vauxhalls you can remove the EGR valve, fasten the valve up somewhere but leave it connected to the ECU. Then fit a blanking plate over where the ECU valve goes and it will solve this kind of problem. Apparently you need to leave the EGR valve connected otherwise a fault code will be logged on the ECU.
Try removing and cleaning the EGR valve again. It's likely that the valve is gummed up. Before re-installing the valve, spray some gumout down in the manifold passages, then start the engine with the valve still off. This should help blow out some more of the deposits remaining in the exhaust manifold. The EGR system recalculates exhaust back to the intake manifold to lower the oxygen content of the intake gases, thereby cooling the combustion chamber, which in turn lowers NOx emissions. This is done by opening and closing an EGR valve. The Miata's computer calls for the valve to open and close based on a number of factors.
Thought this was egr related as removing pipe from solenoid to egr cured problem. However after hours of driving like this the engine management light comes on. Have cleaned EGR. Also replaced both vacuum pipes which had holes in them. Interestingly since replacing the hoses the problem persists but it now happens at 60mph rather than 70.
The EGR valves can be changed by someone with a modicum of mechanical knowledge, a wealth of enthusiasm and a high pain threshold. It's not an easy job but can be done without draining the cooling system (which is the method described in the workshop manual). Port deactivation diaphragms/valves will not bring up fault codes.
Dec 08, 2015 · The valve is vacuum AFAIK on yours so check for split in the hose going to EGR and also the wiring going to the Vacuum controller relay. The ECU senses the difference between the pressures on both side of the valve unlike the older ones and therefore you cannot just blank it off like on them.
Aug 17, 2012 · The EGR Valve is located in the engine compartment on the Ford Focus. The EGR Valve is set almost dead center into the top of the motor. The EGR Valve looks like a small carburetor with caps on the top and sides.
Sep 10, 2015 · EGR valves do more harm than good once the vehicle has more than say 15K miles on it. They are designed to get the vehicle passed the emissions and this is done in a lab - not in the real world - the same is true for fuel economy figures as well - nothing to do with the manufacturer - this is a EU thing

You can book online and our mobile mechanics will come and do the work on your doorstep, one way to make your life a little easier! The EGR valve is a pollution control device that recirculates a set amount of exhaust gas back into the intake to lower combustion temps and reduce the emission of Oxides of Nitrogen -NOX. Because this system creates the essense of a vacuum leak, it is regulated by computer so that it is open only at times that idle and running will not be ... The EGR valve’s exhaust emission system makes it susceptible to electronic control problems and unburned gas or carbon buildup. The reintroduction of soot together with condensation corrodes the valves and coolers. This leads to problems like sensor or controller replacement, wiring repair or even complete replacement of the EGR valve. .
We have over lots of customer reviews on Mazda EGR Valve to help you find exactly what you need. We work hard to build a great website for car parts, so start perusing and see what you find. If you know your Year Make Model, put it in the selector so that we can guide you to a product that fits your vehicle. The Chrysler EGR valve recycles these gases throughout the engine in order to reduce nitrogen oxide and nitrogen dioxide gases created by the combustion process. Peak combustion temperatures toward the end of engine combustion trigger oxygen and nitrogen to coalesce and create oxides of nitrogen, which are combustion by-products that lead to polluting emissions. Part of the problem is that the EGR valve sits on top of the motor—a cooler location than on the newer 6.7L Power Stroke, which even has its own EGR cooling system. Consequently, the EGR valve can get plugged up in as little as 20,000 miles.
- If the EGR pressure sensor has any issues which affect the functionality of the EGR system it can cause the vehicle to fail an emissions test.

This Shop Manual covers operation, removal, inspection, cleaning and installation of DD platform EGR, exhaust and aftertreatment components. In this manual you will find detailed instructions and illustrations. Jan 08, 2013 · Summary- Removing the EGR ( which I hate ) will cause minimal performance because you will be adding more clean air to the fuel/air mix that will not stay suspended and which will cling to the intake manifold walls, puddle on the combustion chamber walls due to being too heavy to swirl, and cause over rich combustion.
